Becoming Social Warriors

April is the month of change – positive, inspiring and energising. The advent of warmer weather heralds a time to reinvent and craft new ideas and new goals. However, April 2020 has left us all in a sombre mood as we reel under the turmoil of COVID-19. COVID-19 is a global turbulence of immense proportion that the entire mankind is facing. Our race did not see a turbulence of such intensity coming its way and we were caught unaware and unprepared. Uncertainty looms over the lives and livelihoods of many, as countries have initiated lockdowns, social distancing and quarantines in an effort to contain the spread of the deadly COVID-19.

However, mankind’s narrative has been of resilience and endurance in the face of adversity. Human race has faced several turbulences before this – World Wars, Plague, Spanish Flu, Cold War, 9/11, Tsunami, Terrorism in various forms – and every time we have come out stronger than ever before. This too shall pass. We need to remain positive in our fight.

As we fight this dangerous virus, we need to salute the frontline warriors – the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, security forces, administrators – for whom the call of duty has been paramount. We all, every single individual, need to stand solid behind these frontline warriors and also become a warrior in this fight. Overcoming COVID-19 is going to be a long drawn fight in which every single person will need to become a warrior, since this disease is going to affect us way beyond the physical realm. The socio-economic and psychological effects of this turbulence will remain with us for much longer than the disease itself. Not only does every individual need to follow the protocols to keep the virus away but also become “Social Warriors” with a clear understanding that in these difficult times, even the smallest contribution to the society in any form is meaningful.

At SUNIRA Designs, we are conscientiously planning and supporting the craftsmen attached to us in various areas of our work. Team SUNIRA is also using this lockdown period to spring clean our closets with a heart! It is not about decluttering, discarding and donating what we don’t need, wear or like anymore. It’s about consciously cleaning our closets with a heart larger than ever before and keeping aside wearable clothes for those who will need them in the after pandemic-lockdown world.

These are unprecedented times and yet give us an opportunity to transform our lives and society. Look around at your immediate surroundings. How can you contribute?

Be conscious. Be generous. Be a Social Warrior. “May God Rehabilitate Mankind”. “May God Rehabilitate Mankind”
